Wagner, Prigozhin’s private army fighting alongside the Russian army in Ukraine, briefly launched an armed rebellion against Russia’s military leadership in June. The Kremlin said Prigozhin would be deported to Belarus and his fighters would either retire, go with him or join the Russian army.
Another Russian plane crashed in the same month
A Russian military training jet crashed while attempting to land in an area bordering the Russian-administered Crimea, killing one person. The Czechoslovakian-made L-39 was the second military aircraft to crash in three days in the Krasnodar region. Earlier, a Sukhoi-30 fighter plane had crashed in the Kaliningrad exclave, killing both the pilots on board.
Air Force plane crashed in Sri Lanka in the same month
A Chinese-made training aircraft of the Sri Lankan Air Force crashed shortly after take-off on 7 August, killing the pilot and another officer. Quoting Sri Lankan Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, the ‘Daily Mirror’ website said in its news that the PT-6 aircraft used for training crashed shortly after taking off from the air force base in Trincomalee.
