At that time several vehicles were parked on the side of the road near a gas station. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said the fire broke out on the Iskenderun-Antakya highway. The minister tweeted that 22 ambulances and medical teams were dispatched to the spot in Topbogajali.
He tweeted, “May God have mercy on our citizens who lost their lives, I express my condolences to their families. We will try our best to ensure that those injured in the accident recover at the earliest. Hete was the most affected of the country’s 11 provinces affected by the February 6 earthquake in Turkey. This earthquake caused havoc in parts of Turkey and Syria.
According to the government, at least 50,783 people died in Turkey. A private news agency said the truck was carrying debris from buildings damaged by the quake and hit another truck before swerving into the opposite lane of the highway at around 7 p.m. local time. According to Anadolu news agency, eyewitness Ali Sarrak said that some of those killed were burned to death. Pictures released by the news agency showed vehicles on fire.
