15 killed, 60 injured as bus falls into gorge in Pakistan

The bus going from Islamabad to Lahore overturned late on Sunday night in the Kallar Kahar Salt Range area, about 240 km from Lahore. “The bus collided with three vehicles coming from the opposite direction before overturning and fell into a gorge,” rescue service official Muhammad Farooq said on Monday. The bus was carrying people returning from a wedding ceremony.
The emergency rescue service ‘Rescue 1122’ said that the accident occurred due to brake failure. Farooq said that the dead and many injured were taken out by cutting the bus. “The injured have been taken to hospitals in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, where the condition of 11 of them is critical,” he said. He said six women were among the dead. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed grief over the accident. He directed the officials to provide better medical facilities to the injured.
