New Delhi. Air India on Wednesday said 15 per cent of its 1,825 pilots are women. With this, it has become the largest airline in terms of number of women pilots. Tata group-owned Air India, Air India Express and AirAsia India are operating over 90 such flights with all-women crew on the occasion of International Women’s Day. These flights are being operated on domestic and international routes since March 1, it said in a statement.
Out of all the 90 flights with all-women crew, Air India is operating 40 flights on domestic and international routes, the statement further said. On the other hand AI Express is operating 10 international flights and AirAsia is operating more than 40 domestic flights. The airlines said in the statement that more than 40 per cent of Air India’s employees are women. Of its 1,825 pilots, 275 are women, which is 15 per cent of the crew strength. Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson said that India has the largest number of professional women pilots in the world. We are proud of the women employees working with us in Air India. We thank each one of them for spreading the message that women can excel in any field.
