New York: US Border Patrol agents have arrested five foreign nationals, including two Indians, during a smuggling attempt near Algonac in the state of Michigan. On February 20, Border Patrol dispatchers monitoring a remote video surveillance system spotted a ship crossing the international border on the St. Clair River and immediately notified agents in the area.
According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), station agents were alerted and arrested five people where the ship was seen crossing the international border. All five spoke of crossing the border by boat from Canada. Accepted. Detroit Sector agents found two migrants with their clothes soaked and shivering. To this, they told that they had fallen into the river while getting off the boat. Agents said that of the five arrested, two are Indians and one each from Nigeria, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
Chief Patrol Agent Robert Denley said: “The smuggler tried to take advantage of the darkness to hide his criminal activity. Bad guys will do anything to avoid arrest, putting themselves and others at risk. Detroit Sector agents and communications specialists are on 24-hour surveillance protecting our nation. All five of them are being prosecuted for US immigration violations.”
