25 Indian passengers on board a plane that was stopped in France after taking off from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last week on suspicion of human trafficking have now been freed. These travelers had stopped in France for refuge.

This information was received from French media reports. These 25 passengers were not on the flight, which took off for Mumbai on Monday afternoon after a four-day stopover at Chalons-Vatry airport near Paris.

Most of the 276 passengers on board the flight that left France for India were Indians. Le Monde newspaper quoted prosecutors as saying that a local judge “formally” ordered their release on the grounds that the head of border police at France’s Charles de Gaulle airport had missed the deadline set by law. I “did not refer the matter to him.”

25 travelers who applied for asylum on political grounds in France were reportedly freed on Tuesday and five of them were being held in a child welfare services center because they are minors.

The 25 people were among about 300 passengers who boarded a plane operated by Romanian company Legend Airlines in Dubai last week. They were scheduled to fly to Nicaragua, but on December 21, the plane was grounded for four days after an unidentified signal while refueling at Vétry Airport in northeastern France.

Two of the people who stayed in France were questioned by police over suspected people smuggling. According to local media reports, human trafficking charges against the two arrested men were dropped after it was established that the passengers had boarded the plane of their own free will.
