Guatemala’s disaster management agency said the volcano was spewing ash that could affect up to 100,000 people. In the 2018 volcanic eruption, 194 people died and 234 went missing. The greatest danger from a volcano is waves containing a mixture of ash, rock, mud and debris, which can bury entire towns. The disaster agency says such waves are sweeping through four of the seven gullies on the volcano’s flanks.
