The epicenter of the earthquake was 37 km west of Islamabad and the depth was said to be 10 km.

It said that its epicenter was somewhere in Tajikistan and the depth was 150 km.

On 4 January, a strong earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan, with tremors in various cities including Peshawar, Charsadda and the mountainous Swat Valley of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Earthquake tremors were also felt from Peshawar, Takht Bai, Dir Bala, Landi Kotal, Swat, Swabi, Hangu, Charsadda and surrounding areas.
