Washington: US President Joe Biden’s administration said on Monday that India is a global strategic partner of America. This statement has come at a time when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has left for India to attend several major conferences including the G-20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting. Blinken will also attend the Quad (Quaternary Dialogue Group) ministerial meeting and External Affairs Minister S. Will hold bilateral talks with Jaishankar.
The ‘Quad’ comprises the US, India, Australia and Japan. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ned Price said in his daily press conference, “India is our global strategic partner. We have extensive and deep ties with India. Many decisions will also be taken regarding bilateral relations and multilateral relations other than G-20. “We share with India a vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific and India is a major partner of ours bilaterally in the context of the Quad as well as other international groupings. We have tried to tie together some partnerships in which India has an important role to play.
“We’ve talked a lot recently about ‘i2u2,’ a new partnership involving India, the United Arab Emirates, the United States,” Price said. So there are many agendas and you will hear about them when the minister travels there. Apart from India, the United Arab Emirates and the US, I2U2 also includes Israel. After his visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Blinken will arrive in New Delhi for a three-day visit to India. During their bilateral meetings, both Russia and China are expected to come up for discussion.
Price said, “You have heard very strongly from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the Government of India that this is not an era of war. There are many countries around the world, especially Russia, which are challenging the principles of the rules-based order, the principles of the United Nations Charter, the principles of international law, the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We will continue to discuss these issues with our Indian partners. I have no doubt that these will be on the agenda of the G20 and related events. Price said that India and the US share many important interests and many important values.
