Colombo, 5 August (Hindustan Times). Aadhaar-like identity card scheme is also being implemented in Sri Lanka. India is also helping in Sri Lanka for Aadhaar-like scheme ‘Unique Digital Identity Project’. India will spend Rs 300 crore on this project, out of which Rs 45 crore has already been given for the first instalment.
According to the information received from the Sri Lankan President’s Office, the funding for this important scheme in the direction of Sri Lanka’s digitization is being done by the Government of India. The Government of India will spend a total of three hundred crore rupees on this project. The high-profile meeting at the Sri Lankan President’s Office was attended by Sagala Rattanayaka, Senior Advisor to the President on National Security, Sri Lankan Technical Minister Kanaka Herath, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay and First Secretary to the Indian High Commissioner, Eldose Mathew and other officials.
During this, the Indian High Commissioner handed over a check of Rs 45 crore to Kanak Herath as the first installment. This is 15 percent of the total amount. At present Rs 45 crore has been given as advance payment. At the same time, President’s advisor Ratnanayaka said that his government would try to complete the project within the stipulated time.
There was an agreement between India and Sri Lanka regarding this project in March 2022. Under the agreement, an Indo-Sri Lanka Joint Project Monitoring Committee will be constituted for this project. The software development for this project is also being done by the Government of India.
