According to the CBI chargesheet, the loan given by ICICI Bank to the Videocon group resulted in an NPA of over Rs 1,000 crore. The charge sheet, running into over 10,000 pages, was recently filed before a special court for CBI cases here. The charge sheet states that Kochhar allegedly took a bribe of Rs 64 crore and abused his position thereby causing loss to the bank.
Videocon Group founder Venugopal Dhoot told Deepak Kochhar, husband of former ICICI Bank CEO and MD Chanda Kochhar, during an argument over a flat that she would share a room with Indrani Mukerjea in jail. This was stated in the CBI chargesheet in the alleged loan fraud case of ICICI Bank. According to the charge sheet, Deepak Kochhar became very angry on hearing this and told Dhoot to follow his advice or else he would ruin him. This has been said citing the statement of a witness. Kochhar and Dhoot, arrested in December last year, are currently out on bail. Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, was arrested in August 2015 and was lodged in Byculla Jail for over six years thereafter. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in May 2022.
The over 10,000-page charge sheet in the Kochhar case was recently filed before a special CBI court here. According to the statement of a witness, Dhoot and Deepak Kochhar had a fight over a flat in CCI Chambers in Churchgate area here. The witness said in the statement that Dhoot told Deepak Kochhar that he had paid Rs 5.38 crore to State Bank of India Home Finance Limited and got the ownership of the flat free from dispute and it belonged to him. According to the statement, this enraged Deepak Kochhar and asked VN Dhoot to sell all the shares of Quality Appliances Pvt Ltd at face value of Rs 11 lakh, thus transferring the flat to his (Deepak’s) family trust Quality Advisor Will be done.Failing to do so, Chanda will declare her loan accounts in ICICI Bank as NPA (Non-Performing Assets). On this VN Dhoot told him (Deepak) not to transfer the flat in such a way (that) Chanda may one day get into trouble and have to share the room with Indrani Mukerjea.
Deepak Kochhar got very angry on this and told VN Dhoot to obey him, else he would ruin him. The probe agency said that Chanda Kochhar lived in a flat owned by the Videocon group in Mumbai. The flat was later transferred to his family trust (Deepak Kochhar was its managing trustee) in October 2016 for a paltry amount of Rs 11 lakh, while its actual value in 1996 was Rs 5.25 crore.
