In his remarks, Modi also referred to the inspiring journey of Kamala’s mother Dr. Shyamala Gopalan. He said, “Dr. Shyamala Gopalan, mother of Vice President Kamala Harris, came to America from India in 1958. At that time most people did not have a phone and hence his mother used to write letters to her family. He never allowed geographical distances to break ties with his family in India. “Modi said,” He kept this relationship alive through every way and means. He made the most of it. For much of his life in India as well as in America, he kept the two connected. India was always close to his heart despite the distance of thousands of miles.” Referring to his state visit to the US, the Prime Minister said he held several meetings and discussed a number of issues in the last three days. In all these meetings, everyone was of the opinion that there is a need to further deepen the friendship and cooperation between the people of India and America.
