The Taliban has issued a new decree giving one month to shut down beauty salons in Afghanistan. Ministry spokesman Mohammad Sidiq Akif Mahazar confirmed to CNN that the order was given on June 24, in which all salons will be closed until July 27, for the promotion of virtue and the prevention of evil. The ministry said Taliban administrations in all provinces, including Kabul, have been told to cancel licenses for women’s beauty salons. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Virtue said that people were first informed about this ban on July 2 i.e. Sunday.
The Taliban have rolled back decades of progress on human rights since taking control of Kabul in August 2021 following the ignominious withdrawal of the United States and its allies from Afghanistan. The Taliban had earlier imposed restrictions on his studies and jobs as well as going to cinema and entertainment parks. This order to ban beauty salons has been issued by the Taliban’s Ministry of Virtue.
