Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry has been arrested from his house near Thokar Niaz Beg in Lahore. Amid an overnight rush of PTI workers who rushed to party chief Imran Khan to ensure their safety. In the morning, party leader Farooq Habib said the move was in part a conspiracy to arrest party president Imran Khan soon after he publicly denounced the government. Habib said in a tweet that the government has gone mad. The PTI leader also posted videos on social media of Chaudhary being taken away by the police. Sources said Choudhary would be taken to the federal capital. Several party leaders condemned Chaudhary’s house arrest.
PTI Sindh president Ali Haider Zaidi pulled up the government over the arrest. Pakistan has become a lawless country in the hands of these law breaking parliamentarians and corrupt law enforcement officials. As rumors of PTI chief Imran Khan’s arrest spread in the early hours of Wednesday, party leaders and workers thronged his Zaman Park residence in Lahore in large numbers. “There are reports that the puppet government will try to arrest Imran Khan tonight,” PTI announced on its official Twitter handle. PTI leader Chaudhary was arrested from his residence near Thokar Niaz Beg in Lahore, Islamabad police sources said. Sources said he would be taken to the federal capital.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf has accepted the resignations of 43 other PTI MPs, virtually ousting former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party from Parliament. The development comes a day after 45 MPs from Khan’s party collectively withdrew their resignations from the National Assembly. He also requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that he should not be notified if the Speaker approves his resignation.
