New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar asked global food regulators to keep farmers in mind while formulating food safety rules, during this he said that along with this it should be ensured. Farmers are food producers, they should get the right price for their crops. Addressing the Global Food Regulatory Summit 2023, Tomar said that food is the basic right of every person.
Let us tell you that the summit has been organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health. The Minister said that the Government of India has taken several steps to boost production and productivity in the agriculture sector. Through a recorded video message, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus congratulated the Union Health Ministry and FSSAI for organizing this first Global Food Regulatory Summit.
“We must collectively ensure that everyone everywhere has access to safe and nutritious food,” he said. FSSAI CEO G Kamala Vardhan Rao said that safe and nutritious food is the key to good health. While unsafe food causes 600 million infections and 4.2 lakh deaths every year, the agriculture minister made a strong pitch for promoting the use of millets by citing their positive qualities like low water consumption compared to other crops, tolerance to adverse climatic conditions and high nutritional value. Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister, Government of Nepal, Bedu Ram Bhusal was also present in this programme.
