A new arrival hall has been inaugurated at the terminal of Sardar Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. A new arrival hall with state-of-the-art immigration facilities for international passengers has been opened at Terminal-2 of SVPIA. The change has been made to ease passenger traffic and increase overall capacity in the international arrivals block.
The newly constructed immigration area at Terminal 2 with world-class infrastructure is a testimony to the organisation’s resilience, tenacity and tireless effort to overcome bottlenecks. Capacity building
A new arrivals block spread over 2550 square meters of terminal space, showcasing the city’s art, urban landscape and culture, includes 24 state-of-the-art immigration counters. The expansion is aimed at ensuring smoother and more efficient movement of lakhs of passengers passing through the airport. The expansion was pushed forward rapidly due to the increasing number of passengers from Ahmedabad airport. Ahmedabad airport handled more than 10 million passengers in the last financial year and has handled more than 4 million passengers in just 4.5 months. Passenger traffic at the airport is expected to increase by more than 25% by the end of this year. Several infrastructural development works are underway at SVPI Airport to cater to the increasing number of passengers. Earlier there were 16 immigration counters in the immigration areas; The new area will now have 24 counters with latest technology and advanced amenities for a seamless passenger experience.
design philosophy
Ahmedabad being the first World Heritage City, the new arrival hall introduces travelers to its rich heritage. The arrival area of the terminal has been designed under the theme “Hamara Ahmedabad” keeping in mind the rich heritage, distinctive rituals and traditional culture. As international passengers pass through the terminal, Ahmedabad’s artistic vistas of the dynamic Gujarati atmosphere will be on view. They will pass through rows of illuminated pylons symbolizing celebration and welcome.
At the center of the art project will be an “Aanganvan” planter that will showcase the rich and ancient culture of the state through Dholavira encryption. To which arts and crafts will be added soon. These human-scale planters will be in cool comfortable spaces, creating a sky-lit indoor oasis where passengers can rest and freshen up after a long flight.
Efficiency & Passenger Convenience
Keeping in view the importance of a seamless baggage reclaim experience, the baggage reclaim hall now houses six spacious baggage belts. The merger will ensure faster customs clearance of passengers from the terminal through green and red channels.
