Air India’s problems increase, security lapse becomes huge, DGCA imposes fine of Rs 1.10 crore

Air India The problem is not showing signs of decreasing. On one hand, the aircraft company has launched its new Airbus 350A. Whereas, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 crore on airline Air India for violation of safety standards in respect of flights operated on some long routes. According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the regulator conducted a detailed investigation after receiving a voluntary safety report from an airline employee. In this, security violations were alleged in flights operated by Air India on some important long-haul routes. DGCA said that since the investigation prima facie revealed non-compliance by the airline. After this, a show cause notice was issued to Air India. The safety report pertains to leased aircraft operated by Air India. DGCA said in the statement that since the operation of the leased aircraft was not in accordance with the regulatory-OEM performance limits, DGCA has taken enforcement action and imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India.

A former Air India pilot, who served as a B777 commander, had complained about the practice to the civil aviation ministry and DGCA on October 29 last year. DGCA said that their extensive investigation has prima facie revealed non-compliance by the airline.

Recently, IndiGo was fined ₹1.20 crore after a video of passengers on one of its flights eating food on the runway went viral. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reacted strongly to this and said that this is unacceptable. There has been chaos at some airports due to fog. Due to this many flights were either delayed or cancelled. Commenting on this, Scindia said that there are vagaries of nature which unfortunately we do not have control over. These irregularities of nature occur all over the world. We have some very bad fog days in Delhi. As you all know, any civil aviation ecosystem consists of some base stations. When the base station is affected due to weather or any other event, it creates a cycle of unfortunate delays and cancellations throughout the system.”
