DGCA said in a statement that the surveillance found deficiencies in the accident prevention work carried out by the airline and the availability of requisite technical manpower. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday suspended Air India’s flight safety chief for a month after finding lapses in accident prevention work carried out by the airline. This came to light after the aviation watchdog’s team monitored Air India on July 25 and 26 in the areas of internal audit, accident prevention work and availability of required technical manpower. According to DGCA, the investigation was conducted as per the flight safety manual and civil aviation requirements.
DGCA said in a statement that the surveillance found deficiencies in the accident prevention work carried out by the airline and the availability of requisite technical manpower. Further, it was observed that some of the internal audits/spot checks conducted by the airline were conducted carelessly and were not in accordance with the regulatory requirements. “DGCA, after reviewing the action taken report submitted by the airline, issued show cause notices to the concerned post holders,” it said.
The aviation regulator has directed the Tata Group-owned airline not to entrust any audit, monitoring or spot checks related to DGCA compliance to any particular auditor whose inspections indicate lack of diligence. Air India has been facing the ire of the aviation regulator for the last few months. Recently, DGCA had suspended simulator training activities for A320 pilots at the airline’s facility in Hyderabad due to some lapses found during inspection.
