New Delhi. Vinay Dubey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Akasa Air, a nearly two-year-old airline company, believes that air fares in India are ‘incredibly affordable’. He said that there is such growth potential in the country’s aviation market where Akasa Air as well as other airline companies can perform well. Akasa Air is preparing for its first international flight from Mumbai to Doha from March 28. Dubey said the airline does not do things for ‘marketing’. “Our aim is to be among the top 30 airlines in the world by 2030. We are ready for listing in future.

“We think our financial future is very good,” Dubey said. In future we will go for listing. We hope to be listed someday.” He acknowledged that there has always been intense competition in the aviation sector. As long as we focus on the fundamentals, there is enough scope for growth in the future not only for Akasa Air but for others as well. The airline’s founder and CEO said, “The growth we are seeing in India does not mean that Akasa will do well only if others perform poorly. Akasa can also perform well and so can others. Similar growth is being seen in India.

Akasa Air was scheduled to begin operations in August 2022. Today there are 24 aircraft in its fleet. The company’s share in the domestic market is 4.5 percent. To a question about air ticket prices, Dubey said India has some of the cheapest air fares. India is one of the fastest growing civil aviation markets in the world. It is among the most price sensitive markets given the increase in passenger numbers and the number of first-time travelers. Concern has been raised about the increase in fares during festivals.

Dubey said, “I think the air fares in India are the cheapest in the world. When you compare Indian airfares to parts of Europe, East Asia, North America, you will find that India has some of the most affordable airfares. This difference in airfare is not just Rs 10 or Rs 100, it is quite big.” Dubey also said that there is no shortage of pilots in the airline and there will be no disruption in flights.
