New Delhi. Akasa Air on Thursday announced an order for 150 aircraft. With this, three Indian aviation companies together have ordered a total of 1,120 aircraft within a year. Less than two years old, Akasa Air has placed a confirmed order for 150 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. This includes 737 Max-10 and 737 Max 8-200 aircraft. In the year 2023, Air India and Indigo together placed orders for 970 aircraft to Boeing and Airbus.

All three companies are focusing on expanding their fleet to increase their penetration in the fast-growing Indian aviation sector. Tata Group-owned Air India had ordered 470 aircraft in February last year. In this, Airbus got the order for 250 aircraft and Boeing got the order for 220 aircraft. Subsequently, in June, the country’s largest airline IndiGo signed an agreement with Airbus to buy 500 aircraft.

Since February last year, Akasa Air, Air India and IndiGo together have ordered 1,120 aircraft. Indian airlines are also ready to take delivery of previously ordered aircraft. IndiGo alone has an order book of around 1,000 aircraft. According to an analysis, a total of more than 1,600 aircraft will be handed over to domestic airlines in the coming years. At present the total fleet size of Indian airlines is 730.
