Stock Market Closing Bell: The period of disappointment continued in the Indian stock market for the third consecutive day. Till the closing bell, the Sensex closed at 71,186.86 with a fall of 313.90 points or 0.44 percent. Whereas, Nifty slipped and closed at 21462.25 with a decline of 109.70 points or 0.51 percent. The impact of HDFC’s quarterly results was visible even today on the shares of the banking sector. There was pressure in Nifty Banking throughout the day. Apart from this, metal and IT shares also closed under pressure. Whereas, there was a green phase in Pharma, Realty and Auto indices throughout the day. But, their shares were also not able to lift the fallen market. There was a decline in PSE and FMCG indices till the market closed.

Of the 30 stocks in the 30-share BSE Sensex, 12 stocks saw a rise and 18 stocks saw a fall. Whereas out of 50 Nifty stocks, 22 closed higher and 28 closed lower. LTIMindtree, HDFC Bank, NTPC, Titan Company and Asian Paints were among the top losers on Nifty. Whereas, Sun Pharma, Cipla, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors and Axis Bank were the top gainers.

Traders say that there is weakness in the market due to profit booking after the recent record rise. Apart from this, the latest selling of foreign funds also spoiled the sentiment of investors. During this period, the 30-share BSE Sensex fell by 561.05 points to reach 70,939.71. Nifty was down 165.6 points at 21,406.35. The Sensex had reached an all-time high of 73,427.59 on Tuesday. On the same day, Nifty also touched its highest level of 22,124.15. After this rise, profit booking is being seen in the market.
