The Chinese National Health Commission said that since the blood donation law was implemented in China in 1998, the volume and number of blood donations in China have continued to increase, and all clinical blood has come from free donations of citizens. In recent years, China’s blood safety supply level has continued to improve, and blood emergency guarantee capabilities have been continuously strengthened. The “Global Blood Safety and Availability Report for the Year 2021” released by the World Health Organization shows that China tops the world in terms of total voluntary blood donation, safety level of blood quality and appropriate clinical blood utilization level.
The National Health Commission and six other departments issued a notice on January 8, requiring all localities to establish a “blood donor-centric” service concept and improve the quality of unpaid blood donation services. Communist Youth League organizations and Red Cross societies at various levels should organize volunteers to actively participate in the promotion, mobilization and service of free blood donation. And health administrative departments and blood centers at all levels should carry out blood opinion monitoring work, open complaint channels for blood donors, and promptly resolve issues of concern to blood donors.
