ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, the world’s two leading steel producers, has announced the appointment of Dr. Arvind Bodhankar as its Chief Sustainability Officer.
In his new role, Dr. Bodhankar will lead the sustainability agenda for AM/NS India, focusing on articulating and implementing medium and long-term actions for decarbonization. Along with this, he will also focus on taking forward the organization’s climate protection agenda and reducing environmental impact.
Dr. Bodhankar was previously Executive Director (ESG) and Chief Risk Officer at Dalmia Bharat Group. There, he led sustainability and risk management functions and also oversaw initiatives on renewable energy, secular economy, carbon capture and green building projects.
With over three decades of experience in diverse manufacturing and carbon-intensive industries including petrochemicals, fertilizers, steel, cement and automotive, Dr. Bodhankar has held leadership roles in operations and quality systems, health, safety and environment. He has also led the sustainability agenda for leading manufacturing companies.

AM/NS India has set a target of 20% reduction in emissions intensity by 2030 with a roadmap of actions across the entire value chain of steel production. This includes promoting renewable energy to meet 100% power needs, more than doubling scrap steel recycling through new and enhanced sourcing and processing facilities and enhancing operational efficiencies with new technology improvements.
