United Nations :The US has avoided a possible diplomatic crisis at the United Nations over the issue of Israeli settlements. Various diplomats familiar with the development said on Sunday on condition of anonymity that a controversial resolution was to be presented at the United Nations by the Palestinians and their supporters, which the US had already successfully blocked.

In this resolution, Israel was to be condemned for the expansion of settlements and demanded to stop the activities in the future.
Diplomats said the Biden administration managed to convince both Israel and the Palestinians that they could agree in principle to freeze any unilateral action for six months. According to diplomats, this would mean Israel’s commitment not to expand the settlements until at least August.

He said that for the Palestinian side this would mean a commitment by August not to act against Israel in the United Nations and other international bodies such as the World Court, the International Criminal Court and the UN Human Rights Council. Diplomats said that instead of presenting the resolution, a presidential statement in line with the resolution would probably be passed on Monday. A presidential statement needs to be endorsed by all 15 members of the Security Council, after which it becomes part of the Security Council’s records, but is not legally binding.
