America: A US fighter plane destroyed a small car-sized object flying at an altitude of about 40,000 feet near the north coast of Alaska on Friday on the orders of President Joe Biden. Pentagon Press Secretary Brigadier General Pat Ryder told that this object was first seen in American airspace on Thursday. It is not yet known where this item came from. He said it was a “danger to civil air traffic”. Let us know some important things about the new aerial object,
Here are 10 important things to know about the new aerial object
1. The car-sized object posed a reasonable threat to civilian flights and was flying at an altitude of about 40,000 feet.
2. The origin of the object is not yet known. White House spokesman John Kirby said the object was not manned. American pilots who flew said it was much smaller than the previous week’s balloon and did not appear to be manoeuvrable.
3. An F-22 fighter based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska shot down the object using an AIM-9X short-range air-to-air missile.
4. The object flew over one of the most desolate places in the country with a population of about 300 people.
5. The object was caught by US radar around 9 pm on Thursday (Alaska time). It was traveling at a speed of 20 to 10 mph.
6. Prior to the shoot-down, the Federal Aviation Administration restricted flights from Bullen Point in Alaska to an approximately 10-square-mile (26-square-kilometer) area within US airspace.
7. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a tweet on Friday that he was informed and supported the decision.
8. The object fell on the frozen water and officials hoped they could recover the wreckage faster than last week’s giant balloon.
9. When the object was dropped, it broke into pieces.
10. The spy balloon raised tensions between the US and China with the Pentagon claiming that the balloon was part of China’s larger surveillance program. China warned of consequences and said it was a clear overreaction on the part of the US. China said that the balloon was due to weather information and flew away.
