Washington. A senior US government official has said that his country supports direct dialogue between India and Pakistan. Relations between India and Pakistan are strained due to various issues including cross border terrorism and Kashmir issue. India has been maintaining that it wants to have normal neighborly relations with Pakistan but the onus is on Islamabad to create an environment free of terrorism and hostility. India has also said that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is and always will be” its part.

This has been our stand for a long time.” Miller’s comments came two days after Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered to hold talks with India to resolve all serious and outstanding issues. On India’s relations with Pakistan, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said in June that it was not possible for India to normalize relations with the neighboring country unless it stopped its policy of cross-border terrorism.
