Washington, 08 August (Hindustan Times). An American lawmaker who has become the voice of Indians in America will visit Delhi this month to be a part of India’s Independence Day celebrations. This delegation of American lawmakers will be present at the Red Fort on August 15 to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address.
US lawmakers are visiting India on the initiative of ‘Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans’, the largest bipartisan alliance of a particular country in the US House. The delegation is being led by Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna and Congressman Michael Waltz. During the visit to India, the US Congressman will visit the Red Fort, where the Prime Minister will address the nation on India’s Independence Day. Apart from this, these people will meet people related to business, technology, government and Bollywood in Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. Also visit Rajghat, the historical monument dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.
Among those visiting India are MPs Deborah Ross, Kat Cammack, Mr Thanedar, Jasmine Crockett as well as Rich McCormick and Ed Case, apart from Khanna and Waltz. However, for MP Khanna, coming to India is a bit more special than MPs. In fact, his grandfather Amarnath Vidyalankar was an Indian freedom fighter who spent four years in jail with Gandhiji and later became a part of India’s first Parliament.
Khanna said it was an honor to lead a bipartisan delegation to India as co-chair of the India Caucus. He said that we will also discuss issues of strengthening economic and defense ties between the two countries during this period.
