The British security minister was in India on a three-day visit mainly to attend the G20 anti-corruption ministerial meeting in Kolkata last week. Highlighting India-UK bilateral relations, Tugendhat said there is no debate in his country about New Delhi being an essential ally of London.
British Security Minister Tom Tugendhat said that India’s G20 presidency has been incredibly important as it has offered effective leadership in tackling various global challenges, including food security. Tugendhat said that it is very clear to me that this is also the right time for the presidency. India under the chairmanship of the G-20 is highlighting the concerns of the Global South including in the areas of food, fuel and fertiliser, besides focusing on green growth and accelerated implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure inclusive global growth.

The minister criticized Russia for violating its grain agreement with Kiev, which would block vital grain exports from Ukraine from reaching world markets. Tugendhat said that we are talking about different ways of looking at food security in many countries around the world. Now it has become increasingly important.
