US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, his wife Amy Weakland and another family member paid obeisance at the Golden Temple on Monday. During the ambassador’s visit, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami discussed various matters with him. Dhami requested him to start a direct flight from the US to Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport. Dhami said that the Ambassador has given positive response in this regard.

Dhami honored Garcetti and his family members at the information center by presenting them with a model of the Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), books and shawls. Along with his family members, the US Ambassador visited Sri Guru Ram Das Langar Hall, performed parkkarma (circumambulation) and seva (voluntary service). Later he went to Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib to pay obeisance, where Hazuri Singhs gave him flower garlands and patasha prasad.

Regarding his trip, Garcetti wrote in the visitor’s book, “There are few places in the world that are truly sacred. The Golden Temple tops that list. You feel not only the sacredness of this place, but the generous service of the people who not only define the world as it is, but also as it can be. May the deep friendship between the United States of America and the Sikhs always bring peace to our world. With deep respect and friendship.”

Dhami said the US ambassador said his home state California has a large population of Sikhs with whom he has good and longstanding relations. The Ambassador said that the commencement of direct flights from America to Amritsar will provide convenient connectivity to Punjabis settled in the United States.
