Another blow to Air India, DGCA fined Rs 10 lakh

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India for not reporting the incidents that happened on AI-142 Paris-New Delhi flight on December 6, 2022.
There were two incidents in the Air India flight. Male passenger on flight caught smoking cigarette in washroom. He was in an inebriated condition. He was not following the instructions of the cabin crew. Another passenger allegedly urinated on the blanket of a female passenger when she went to the toilet.
Regarding these incidents, DGCA issued a show cause notice to the accountable manager of Air India as to why action should not be taken against him. A senior DGCA official said on Tuesday that Air India responded to the show cause notice on January 23 and the same was being investigated.
The enforcement action in the form of a financial penalty of Rs 10,00,000 (Rupees ten lakh) has been imposed on Air India for delay in not reporting the incident to DGCA and referring the matter to its internal committee, the official said. Violation of DGCA civil aviation requirements.
After two incidents of passengers misbehaving on Air India Paris-New Delhi flight on December 6, 2022, aviation regulator DGCA had asked the airline to maintain a database of all unruly passengers. The airline was also asked to refer the incident to an internal committee.
Earlier, on January 20, the regulator had imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India and suspended the license of the pilot-in-command for three months in connection with the incident of urination in the Air India flight on 26 November 2022. Besides this, the regulator had also imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the director-in-flight services of Air India for failing to discharge his duties.
However, reacting to this action, the All India Cabin Crew Association (AICCA) asked that the Air India crew removed in connection with the Air India urination issue be reinstated on flights. It termed the action against the pilot-in-command (PIC) as an unusual punishment.
