DGCA imposes fine of 10 lakh on Air India for urination in flight, second blow in a week

New Delhi : The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) on Tata Group’s airline Air India has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the airline for not giving information about the incident of bad behavior of passengers last month. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that two incidents of unruly passenger behavior have come to the notice of Air India’s Paris-New Delhi flight on December 6, but due to non-reporting of these incidents in time. For this, a fine of Rs 10 lakh is being imposed on Air India.

Peeing on seat in flight

According to media reports, a passenger on board an Air India flight from Paris to Delhi last month was found smoking in the toilet in an inebriated state. In the same flight, another passenger allegedly urinated on a blanket kept on an empty seat next to him. At that time the female passenger sitting on the adjacent seat had gone to the toilet. After this matter came to light, DGCA issued a show cause notice to Air India saying why no action should have been taken on its part after getting such information.

Air India fined for the second time in a week

Tata Group-led Air India has been fined by the DGCA for the second time in less than a week. Last week too, the aviation regulator had imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on the airline for urinating on a female co-traveller in an inebriated condition during its New York-Delhi flight. In this way, this is the second incident of urination during an Air India flight in the last few months. In both these cases, the matter of not giving timely information to DGCA from Air India has come to the fore.
