Arshad has been considered close to Imran Khan. During an interview, he had commented about the army. In August 2022, he fled from Pakistan to Kenya and sought protection. The media said that Arshad had to lose his life because of his work. In December 2022, the Supreme Court of Pakistan took cognizance of the matter and ordered an inquiry into it. Pakistan’s fact finding team found that he was fired upon by the local police due to mistaken identity. However, the police statement was full of contradictions.
The team also noted in its report that Pakistan’s post-mortem report showed multiple injury marks on Sharif’s body. These included missing four of his fingernails, lacerations to his hand and a broken rib. However, no concrete evidence was found to suggest that he was tortured before his death. Arshad Sharif’s wife and journalist Javeria Siddiqui told how life is going after her husband’s murder.
16 cases in Shahbaz government
Javeria Siddiqui told that her husband used to do defense and investigative journalism. During Imran Khan’s government, he was criticized on social media. But after Shehbaz Sharif came to power, 16 fake cases were slapped on him in several cases including sedition. Javeria further told that Arshad did not want to leave the country. Many times many people in plain clothes have been seen outside the house. They used to follow till the office.

He further said that Arshad was being threatened continuously. They were being told, ‘If you don’t stop exposing the corruption of Pakistan’s elite, we will shoot you in the head.’ Arshad was also threatened by the Taliban. He further told that Arshad suddenly left the country. He called from the airport and said, ‘I am leaving. Not to worry. Keep your jewelery and cash in a safe place.

When asked whether he has faith in the investigation of the Pakistani team? To this he said, ‘No one was arrested in Pakistan and Kenya. FFT’s got a few things I agree on. But the government is not serious about getting him justice because Arshad was the biggest critic. Delay in justice is killing me everyday. He has also asked the question to Kenya that he had got orders from someone to kill Sharif? Couldn’t he have shot at the tire of the car? Arshad was neither driving the car and he was not given treatment after being shot.
