China is engaged in digging gold mines here. It is being told that the attackers stole the gold packets and took them to the forest. Sammy Badibanga Kalondji, a Fijian official, also confirmed the incident. The other two killed were a soldier and a Congolese driver. Kalondji said three other people were injured in the attack, one of whom is a Chinese national while two are locals. Kalondji said the attackers were from the neighboring Manima area. China is a major investor in the DRC. He has taken over the profitable mining industry here.

South Kivu has been witness to several attacks which have been carried out by armed groups. Also, there have been frequent reports of tension and violence between local people and Chinese mining firms. Security has been beefed up as police search for and arrest the attackers in the coming days. It is believed that due to this, clashes between the security forces and the attackers may increase.
Gold production is very high in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many big projects are also going on here. According to global data, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the world’s sixteenth largest producer of gold in the year 2022. Compared to the year 2021, the production here has increased by 0.1 percent.
