New Delhi. The country’s passenger vehicle industry is set to touch the figure of 60 to 70 lakh units annually, in such a situation there is a need to make the operations stable and environment friendly. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said this on Wednesday. Addressing the annual session of the Automobile Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) here on Wednesday, Takeuchi said, “Today India has become the third largest automobile market in the world.
It is estimated that by the financial year 2030-31, the size of the passenger vehicle market will reach 60 to 70 lakh units annually. This means that the scale of operations will be almost double the current level, he said. “So our businesses will need to review things and adapt to the higher level of operations,” Takeuchi said. At that time operations would be spread across multiple locations. Along with this, we will need to make our operations sustainable and environment friendly.
He also asked the domestic auto component industry to work towards strengthening local design and development capacity and upskilling the existing workforce to diversify the business. Takeuchi said the auto parts sector will have to focus on increasing its capacity. He also underlined the importance of skilled human resources to meet the volume and technology aspirations. “India has a talent pool, but there is greater need for collaboration across the value chain to prepare them for the industry,” Takeuchi said. Here, I also urge active support from the government.
