Fixing the next hearing for April 10, the bench said that both will have to appear again on that day.

The bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah also questioned the Center’s alleged inaction on Patanjali’s tall claims and defaming allopathy during the Covid pandemic and asked why the government kept its eyes closed? Senior advocate Balbir Singh, appearing for Ramdev, urged the court to take note of the yoga guru’s presence and his unconditional apology. Justice Kohli told Balakrishna’s lawyer, ‘You should have ensured that the affidavit is filed following your sacred word.’ At the beginning of the hearing, when counsel for Patanjali and others sought some more time to file affidavits of compliance, the bench said, “Sometimes things have to be taken to their logical conclusion.” Earlier on March 19, the court had asked Ramdev and Balkrishna to appear personally in the contempt proceedings. The bench had taken strong exception to the company and Balkrishna not filing their reply to the court notice issued earlier.

The rebuke given to Patanjali’s Baba Ramdev and Balakrishna by the Supreme Court of the country has sent a clear message to all those people who consider themselves rich, power or famous and consider themselves above the law that there is no rule of law in the country. There is rule and no one is above the law. Modi’s opponents every day try to put the government in the dock because the government misuses power.
