Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to visit India to attend the G-20 summit in September this year at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. An official of the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh gave this information on Sunday. India officially took over the presidency of the G-20 on December 1 last year. India will host around 200 meetings across the country under this.
The next summit of the leaders of the G-20 countries is proposed in Delhi on September 9 and 10 this year, in which the heads of states or governments of the member countries will participate. An official aware of the entire development in the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh said that despite not being a member of the G-20, Hasina will attend it as a guest. “Our prime minister is likely to meet his counterpart on the sidelines of the G-20 summit,” the official said. Probably this will be the last meeting between the two heads of government before the general elections in both the countries.
He said that according to tradition, the country presiding over the G-20 invites the guest countries and international organizations like the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Health Organization and the World Trade Organization. He informed that the host country has invited Bangladesh, the only country in South Asia, for the G-20 summit to be held on September 9 and 10.
Apart from this, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and United Arab Emirates have been invited. Hasina’s visit to New Delhi will include a series of high-level meetings in the two capitals and India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra is expected to visit Dhaka in mid-February for preparations, foreign ministry officials said.
