Bangladesh starts sending power from coal-fired power station built by Chinese venture

On June 28, Unit 2 of the Aslam Power Station project, built by a Chinese enterprise in Bangladesh, began sending power. Unit 1 of the project started sending power in late May this year.
The total investment of this project is about US$2.42 billion, which is one of the largest single capacity thermal power units in Bangladesh and one of the largest coal based power stations. Its construction started on 31 December 2018. Invested and constructed by Shandong Electric Power Construction Third Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Power Construction Group.
According to project manager Wang Chien, the Eslam power station adopts seawater direct current cooling and seawater desulphurization technology to minimize impact on the environment while efficiently producing electricity. After the completion of the project, the annual power generation will be 10 billion kWh, thereby reducing the power shortage in Bangladesh to a great extent.
With this, during the peak construction period of the project, it provided over 8,000 direct jobs and over 40,000 indirect jobs, and developed a large number of talents for Bangladesh to manufacture and operate a similar type of unit, and local Promoted economic and social development.
