Banks should achieve the target of schemes related to financial inclusion soon: Financial Services Secretary

New Delhi: Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi has urged public sector banks to expeditiously achieve the targets given to them under various schemes for financial inclusion in the current financial year. In a review meeting with the top management of public sector banks and the NABARD chairman, Joshi asked the banks to clear the pending applications and disburse loans under the PM Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme for street vendors.
The Finance Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that in this meeting, Joshi urged banks to formulate strategies and intensify efforts to digitally connect street vendors and increase their digital payments. The objective of the PM Swanidhi scheme is to empower street vendors. During the meeting, the Secretary reviewed the progress of various social security (Jan Suraksha) schemes including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) and Stand Up India.
