Prime Minister Modi and his Australian counterpart Albanese will witness the opening day of the fourth cricket Test match between India and Australia on March 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad. This will be Albanese’s first visit to India as Prime Minister.

“This is an important visit,” he said in a statement. This will be my fourth meeting with Prime Minister Modi. The first thing I did as Prime Minister was to go to Tokyo on May 24 last year to attend the ‘Quad’ leaders’ meeting. Australia and India are very important partners. We share the same values. We have a vibrant democracy here. We are interested in improving economic relations.

Describing the India tour as a “huge opportunity”, Albanese said that currently India is Australia’s sixth largest trading partner but could become much bigger in future. He said, “It is true that India and Indonesia will be the third and fourth largest economies in the world in the coming years. It offers great opportunities for Australia. During this visit, I will address seven times during which I will talk about the opportunities, increasing people-to-people contact, educational exchanges, investments from both sides, increasing contact between business communities. Australia shares a multifaceted relationship with India.
