If we talk about Maharashtra, the arrival of the biggest tomato market in Pimpalgaon has increased to 15,000 boxes. Earlier it was 1500 coaches. Similarly, in Nashik it has increased from 5 thousand to 10 thousand coaches, while in Lasalgaon it has reached 1500 coaches. So far 350 coaches had arrived here.
Tomato arrivals increased
Due to the increase in the arrival of tomato, its prices have also come down. The average wholesale price of tomato in Pimpalgaon mandi has come down from Rs 1750 per basket to Rs 1200 per basket. Here on August 3, the average wholesale price was recorded at Rs 2400 per basket. According to officials, the average price of tomatoes is expected to come down to below Rs 1,000 per basket soon. The arrival of tomatoes will increase to 25 thousand per day.
Prices will be reduced in all cities
Tomato prices may soon come down in all cities. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the no-confidence motion that the government has started importing tomatoes from Nepal to reduce the rising prices of tomatoes. The first consignment of tomatoes imported from Nepal is likely to reach Varanasi and Kanpur by Friday. He said the National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India (NAFED) is planning a mega sale of tomatoes at a subsidized rate of Rs 70 per kg in Delhi-NCR later this week.
The Finance Minister said that NCCF has so far sold about 8,84,612 kg of tomatoes in Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh. This will continue in the days to come and will be extended as well.
Tomato price came down below Rs 100 in wholesale mandis
According to the Finance Minister, tomatoes are being sold in Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan through cooperatives like NCCF and NAFED. He said that the prices of tomatoes have started falling below Rs.100 in the wholesale mandis of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Explain that the government had taken steps from July 14 to reduce the rising prices of tomatoes. During this, NCCF and NAFD started selling tomatoes at the rate of Rs 90 per kg. On July 16, the government started selling tomatoes at Rs 80 per kg, reducing the price by Rs 10 per kg and on July 20 at Rs 70 per kg.
