Both sides reviewed the situation along the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border areas, and held open, constructive and in-depth discussions on proposals to resolve the outstanding issues and achieve complete disengagement in eastern Ladakh.

The 28th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was held on 30 November 2023. Joint Secretary (East Asia) of the Ministry of External Affairs led the Indian delegation and Director General, Border and Oceanic Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Chinese delegation. Both sides reviewed the situation along the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border areas, and held open, constructive and in-depth discussions on proposals to resolve the outstanding issues and achieve complete disengagement in eastern Ladakh.

The Ministry of External Affairs said they agreed on the need to maintain peace in the border areas, ensure stable situation on the ground and avoid any untoward incident. Both sides agreed to continue dialogue through military and diplomatic channels to achieve the above objective and to hold the next round of senior commanders’ meeting at the earliest.

At the same time, China’s Defense Ministry said that its military values ​​its relations with the Indian Army and 20 rounds of Corps Commander level talks have helped in reducing tension amid the standoff in eastern Ladakh. Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a standoff at some friction points in eastern Ladakh for more than three years, even as both sides have withdrawn their troops from several areas following extensive diplomatic and military talks. India has been saying that its relations with China cannot be normalized until peace is restored in the border areas.
