PM Kisan Yojana: Before the arrival of the interim budget, there was discussion that the amount given by the government under PM Kisan Yojana can be increased to Rs 12 thousand. However, no announcement was made on this in the budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Now the hearts of farmers may be broken due to a question asked by Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda in Parliament.

  • Answering the question on increasing the amount of PM Kisan Yojana, the Agriculture Minister said that no proposal is under consideration.

  • He told Parliament that according to the last agricultural survey, 86 per cent of the approximately 14 crore land-owning farmers have less than 5 hectares of land.

  • With farmer-centric digital infrastructure, the benefits of the scheme have reached all farmers across the country without the involvement of middlemen.

Decrease in the number of people taking advantage of the scheme

The Government of India told the Parliament that the number of beneficiaries under PM-Kisan has fallen by 14 percent to 9.21 crore in 2023-24 from 10.73 crore last year. If the final number of beneficiaries is contained within 9.5 crore, the annual expenditure at the current disbursement rate of ₹6,000/year could be around ₹57,000 crore. The Agriculture Minister said in the Lok Sabha that while maintaining complete transparency in the registration and verification of beneficiaries, the Government of India has so far paid over ₹2.81 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmers in 15 installments.
