Islamabad, 21 February (HS). In the elections held on February 8 in Pakistan, the efforts of parties to manipulate the numbers of seats required to form the government finally seem to be successful. Leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) revealed their cards in a press conference called late on Tuesday night in the capital Islamabad. These leaders said that the next Prime Minister will be Shahbaz Sharif. Both parties will jointly declare Asif Ali Zardari as the presidential candidate.
Pakistan’s Geo News channel gave this information in its report. According to Geo News, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have reached an agreement to form a coalition government at the Centre. Top leaders of both major parties confirmed that they will once again join forces to form a government “in the national interest”.
“Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz now have the full numbers and we are in a position to form the next government,” PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said at a press conference. Bilawal said that Shehbaz would be the next prime minister and Zardari would be the joint candidate of the two parties for the presidency. He said that both the parties will form the next government to take the country out of the current crisis. To a question regarding the nomination of PML-N leader Ishaq Dar as Senate Chairman, Bilawal replied that it would be announced later. Asif Ali Zardari said he wanted to assure the people that his struggle was for “you, Pakistan and future generations”.
On this occasion, PML-N leader Shahbaz said, “We have enough numbers to form the next government.” He thanked Bilawal and Zardari for their cooperation. Shahbaz also said that both the parties have decided that Zardari will be fielded as a joint candidate for the post of President. Former prime minister Shehbaz said the decision on ministries would be taken later under the guidance of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and the PPP’s top leadership. It is noteworthy that in the elections, independent candidates supported by PTI have secured maximum 92 seats in the National Assembly. PML-N had to be content with 79 seats and PPP with 54 seats.
