Jaishankar was in Thailand to participate in the BIMSTEC Retreat. The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation or BIMSTEC is an international organization of seven South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha in Bangkok on Monday. During his meeting with the Thai Prime Minister, Jaishankar also discussed ways to further strengthen BIMSTEC, conveying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of good wishes. Jaishankar was in Thailand to participate in the BIMSTEC Retreat. Five of its members are from South Asia – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka and two are from South East Asia ie Myanmar and Thailand. Jaishankar tweeted that he is honored to meet Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha along with his colleagues from BIMSTEC countries. Congratulations and best wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Jaishankar said that shared with him our commitment to further strengthen BIMSTEC. Jaishankar also met Nepal’s Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC meeting in Bangkok.

Look forward to keeping in touch. The BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat began in Bangkok today. Jaishankar, who is on a six-day visit to Indonesia and Thailand, attended the meeting.
