Aviation regulator DGCA has temporarily suspended the Boeing simulator training facility by Air India due to some lapses. A source gave this information on Tuesday. According to the source, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is verifying some documents related to the matter and will take a decision on restoring the simulator training facility after completion of the work.
Air India’s fleet consists of wide-body Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The airline uses the Boeing simulator facility to properly train its pilots to fly these aircraft. The source said, “The DGCA has temporarily suspended the Boeing simulator training facility of Air India due to some lapses. The regulator is verifying some documents related to the matter.
When contacted, a senior Air India official said that the DGCA regularly reviews the functioning of the airline. However, he did not give any details about this decision. This action against Air India has been taken after the report of two-member inspection team of DGCA. The inspection team had found lapses in the airline’s internal safety audit report following which an inquiry was initiated into the matter. According to the report submitted to the DGCA, Air India did not take care of security points in several areas such as cabin surveillance, baggage handling and load carrying.
