UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has made his tax returns public, according to which he has paid more than £1 million in taxes to the government since joining active politics in 2019. Significantly, Sunak had promised transparency in governance in November last year, under which tax information has been made public.
Sunak, one of Britain’s richest politicians, made public on Wednesday that his income between 2019 and 2022 has been 47.66 lakh Great Britain Pound (GBP) (about Rs 48.16 crore) and he has spent about 10.53 lakh GBP (about 22 percent) at the rate of Rs. 10.64 crores) has been paid. Meanwhile, the 42-year-old politician paid GBP 3,25,826 in capital gains tax and GBP 1,20,604 in income tax on GBP 1.9 million as finance minister.
During a visit to North Wales on Wednesday, Sunak said, “I have made my tax information public in the interest of transparency, as I asked to do, and I am pleased that I was able to do so.” “I think ultimately people are interested in what I’m going to do for them.”
Sunak’s financial details came under pressure to make public tax information during his campaign for the Conservative Party premiership last year. Sunak was defeated by Liz Truss in that election, although Truss was soon forced to step down as prime minister and was replaced by Sunak.
