British Prime Minister Sunak signs new strategic agreement with Singapore

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who came to attend the G20 summit being held in New Delhi, signed a new strategic partnership agreement on Saturday. After the strategic partnership between Britain and Singapore, Downing Street (Office of the British Prime Minister) said that both the countries will soon finalize a ‘new and modern’ bilateral investment treaty. With this agreement, companies from Singapore and Britain will be able to invest in each other with more confidence. Besides, this is expected to increase employment opportunities and development in the economies of both the countries.

In a statement issued in Delhi, Sunak said, “This new agreement with Singapore will take us even further towards meeting our priorities.” We are working on charting the future of the global economy. We are doing this with our closest partners.” He said, ”As Prime Minister, I have put the interests of the British people front and center during our international negotiations. I am ensuring that diplomacy delivers results. “You have already seen that these agreements will prevent illegal immigration, make our economy more secure, and increase trade with our international partners.”

Downing Street reported that Britain has signed a number of new bilateral and multilateral agreements since Sunak took office as Prime Minister. He said that 12 rounds of talks have taken place on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India and agreement is yet to be reached on some matters. “We are negotiating free trade agreements (FTAs), including an agreement with India, which will be the first to be signed with any European country,” the statement said.
