London (Uttam Hindu News): A British Sikh, who threatened to kill the Queen to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, has been sentenced to nine years in prison by a British court.
Jaswant Singh Chail, 21, had admitted in February this year to plotting to breach the walls of Windsor Castle and kill Queen Elizabeth II on Christmas Day 2021. In a video posted on social media, Chail had said that he was partially inspired by the Star Wars films to attack Rani.
A London court hearing revealed that Chael had fantasized about assassinating the Queen since he was a teenager, and had shared the information with an artificial intelligence-powered “girlfriend” he named Sarai Was.
Justice Nicholas Hilliard said that despite conflicting diagnoses from various experts, he concluded Chael was mentally ill, but due to the seriousness of the crime he would have to serve a prison sentence, ABC News reported.
According to the report, Chail will first be taken to a psychiatric treatment center, where he is undergoing treatment, and if he is deemed fit in the future, he will serve the rest of his sentence in prison.
“The defendant had thoughts of murder, which he had previously acted upon,” Hilliard was quoted as saying in ABC News. “His intention was not just to harm or harass the queen, but to kill.”
