Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme should be for all
People are hopeful that the Prime Minister’s dream project Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme can also be opened to the general public with a nominal premium. Regarding the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme launched in 2018, it was being speculated in the initial stages that in the next few years, the government can start this scheme for the general public as well. For this, people will have to pay a normal premium, just as the central government started accident insurance with a monthly premium of Rs 12, in the same way people have expectations about health insurance. As of now this scheme is free and available only to economically weaker people as per 2011 census. In the last 3 years, the government has also included the employees of the government health sector and the working class.
Less premium and more facilities
Most of the health policies available in the market do not have OPD cover. If an applicant also wants to take OPD cover, then he has to pay an additional premium of Rs 5 to 7 thousand. Many companies are not providing OPD cover even after paying extra premium. Health policies have also become costlier in the last few years, the policy which earlier used to cover Rs 5 lakh and 3 family members at an annual premium of just Rs 14,000, has now reached Rs 18,000. People expect that the government will increase the facilities further by reducing the premium of health policies.
What do policy holders say?
Many conditions are hidden in the health policy, which are disclosed only when needed. This is cheating with the policy holder. At the same time, the government should remove GST from health insurance and life insurance. This will give a lot of relief to the common people. Udayan Garg, policy holder
I started the policy with 14 thousand rupees and now the premium is going to 21 thousand rupees. Despite this the insurance company is not giving OPD cover. I am ready to pay more premium for OPD cover but the company agent is denying it. Rakesh Kumar, policy holder
The agent had claimed cashless while taking the health insurance policy, but when the need arose, it was found that 15 percent would have to be paid from his own pocket. Apart from this, many essential facilities for the operation were also not covered in the policy. This is cheating with the customer. The government should be strict on this. -Vijay Kumar, policy holder
The health insurance company discloses all the conditions at the time of giving the policy. The pros and cons of the policy are explained to the customer. Only after fully understanding the customer takes the policy according to his pocket. The company offers all types of policies. For more features, a higher premium has to be paid. -Rahul Garg, Policy Agent
I want a health policy for 4 family members but after the age of 40 the premium of the policy is very high which I cannot afford. The government should give relief to those taking insurance policies by reducing GST or implement Ayushman Yojana for the general public, so that premiums are low and health insurance of Rs 5 lakh has all types of cover. -Suraj Singh, Private Job
