India is one of the few countries in the world, which has withstood many setbacks in the last three years. In the financial year 2023, its economic growth rate (GDP growth) is estimated to be around 7 percent. Which is the fastest growth in the world’s major economy. But will it continue to show strong growth in the times to come and stand firm? Along with this, there is also a question that will India be able to fulfill its promise of becoming a developed country by 2047? Keeping this vision in mind, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented a very sensible and balanced budget. In this budget, heavy investment in the infrastructure sector, green growth, skill development among the youth have been taken care of. One big truth about the inclusive growth that the Finance Minister has talked about in the budget is that technology will play a big role in it. The country earns $250 billion annually from the information technology sector and employs 50 lakh people. One big thing is that out of these 50 lakh people, 36 percent are women. The information technology sector has achieved this position, the question is how to take it forward while preserving it?

This can be helped by India’s large young working population. We can create a globalized labor market. It is believed that by the year 2030, India would have become the largest workforce in the world. Then more than 60 percent of our population will be able to work. When many countries of the world are getting old, this will be a big positive in favor of India. To take advantage of this, the country needs better skills for the existing workforce. They have to be equipped with such knowledge that they will be able to work anywhere in the world.

Can’t find professionals

Today the information technology industry of the country is not getting better professionals in many fields. These include areas such as robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data and analytics. To improve this situation, industry, academia and the government need to work together and for that a comprehensive plan has to be made. Under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, the government has resolved to provide on-the-job training to lakhs of youth. For this, work will be done in collaboration with the industry. Coding, artificial intelligence, robotics and drone technology have been included in this plan, for which I am thankful to the government.

In the budget, the government has laid a lot of emphasis on the infrastructure sector. She is going to invest 3.3 percent of GDP in this. This will also benefit the Indian information technology sector. Small towns can also be made partners in development with good roads, electricity, quality housing, better rail and aviation connectivity. Our big cities are densely populated and there are many facilities and services which need to be further improved. For a long time, people in the country have been forced to go to places where there are jobs. Now we have to take employment to the places where people live, where they are residents.

emphasis on inclusive development

The Finance Minister also emphasized on inclusive development in the budget. He talked about taking the benefits of economic development to all sections of the country. For this, every countryman should have access to equal, high quality education and healthcare. Our education system should be such that logical thinking develops in children. They should have problem solving, leadership and good communication skills. This can happen only when the teachers are also good. We will need the help of academics and administration for this. It will also have to be ensured that paucity of resources does not become an obstacle in achieving this goal. This is also the aim of the National Education Policy 2020. The government has conceptualized a new teacher training program for this. Along with this, changes are also being made in the District Institutes of Education and Training, which is an important step towards achieving these goals. It is also to be remembered that if a child is hungry or malnourished, it would be unwise to think of educating him. I hope that the government will move towards the commitment made in the National Education Policy to increase the expenditure on education. At the same time, the resolution taken in the budget to eliminate sickle cell anemia by 2047 is also praiseworthy.
